Lemon Sharks!!

Updated: Nov 14, 2021

The Lemon Shark belongs to the family Carcharhinidae. These sharks are known to swim in the subtropical and tropical waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. You’ll see these creatures foraging the sandy floor of the coral keys and mangrove forest looking for its next prey. Their yellow skin helps provide camouflage for these predators. Their extreme muscular body and flattened head and short snout make this shark a very powerful and commercialized animal. Though these animals prefer the coastal areas, they can change their salinity to be in some brackish water, but you won’t see them go as far as a bull shark can go. Of course, their appetite consists of being fish, but you will find this species preying on animals like crustaceans like crabs, shrimps, and lobsters. They will also eat seabirds and stingrays if they're hungry. Let the juveniles get too hungry and they will eat each other!

As I stated above these animals are very commercialized. When I say that, this is because commercial fishers are targeting lemon sharks, looking to sell and trade their fins and meat. The thickness of their skin is marketed and sold to produce leathers. This now has caused this shark to be listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN Red List.
